If you are uninsured or do not intend to submit a claim to a health plan for your care, you generally have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate of expected charges.
Your Right to an Estimate
You have the right to receive a written Good Faith Estimate explaining the expected charges for scheduled nonemergency healthcare services. You may also request an estimate before scheduling.
If Your Bill Is Higher
If a bill from a particular provider or facility is at least $400 more than that provider’s or facility’s Good Faith Estimate, you may be eligible to use the federal patient-provider dispute resolution process.
A dispute generally must be started within 120 calendar days of receiving the initial bill.
